| Heidelberg | Where to see an opera Posted: Sat March 25, 2006 08:56 PM UTC
We are in Heidelberg visiting as of now (March 25) and leave Apr 2. Where can we see an opera while here in Heidelberg or maybe close by? How much does it usually cost per person? Must you get really dressed up? Is nice black pants and black sweater for woman ok? Must man wear suit, or jacket? Danke!!!

I'm going to preface this by saying I've never attended an opera in Germany. However, my thought is that nice black slacks and black sweater would be fine for a woman. I don't know if a man "must" wear a suit, but it would certainly seem appropriate. A well dressed man is always in season! Unless you are students, a jacket at least would be polite.
On the other hand if you are purchasing orchestra seats and sitting in a high priced seat, your husband should definitely wear a suit. (I'm always in the pit playing so I always wear black and my husband (also playing) must wear a tux. We have no choice!) Enjoy your opera!
