Hello,

We are staying in Dover Central Premier Travel Inn before our cruise.
Is it possible to walk to Dover Castle and back? My husband has a mobility scooter (of course he would ride and I walk).
I have looked at many maps of Dover and the Marine Parade where we are staying and would like to know if the walk would be dangerous(along highways without sidewalks).
If you think it's too steep or dangerous, how can we get to the Castle? Is there a bus that can carry a scooter?
Can we walk to the cruise ship terminal? I can attach luggage to the scooter. We look like a little caravan with our luggage! :)
Are there any other tips you can give us for our stay?
My husband was born in a little town in Pennsylvania called Dover! I'm sure it's a named after your Dover.

Will take a taxi, but is there a bus? Hop on hop off that goes to the castle?

We took a bus some years ago and as it's quite steep, I presume it still runs so the castle gets more visitors.

We'll look for a bus. I guess there's alot of walking once you get to the castle.

We went there with a local bus - would never have paid for a sightseeing bus just to get to the castle.

Guess we'll find out when we get there. A taxi may be the way to go uphill. We could walk back down from the castle. Sounds like a plan.

Hope I am not too late for advice here. The castle is a long way from the Travel Inn by road and I would not recommend walking either way. A taxi would be better. It will be worth the trip though.

Thanks for the advice. Since you live in Dover, besides the castle, what would you recommend we can walk to see? Can we walk along the ocean?

This is a link to my Dover page, there is a tip there about the sea front, the accompanying picture looks back towards your hotel which you can see on the far right. If the weather is OK it is quite nice to walk along although you are still inside the harbour walls but you can walk along the pier that separates the eastern and western docks. At one end of the Eastern docks is where the ferries land and looking towards the western docks from the pier you can see the cruise terminal and where the hovercrafts used to come ashore.

The area around the harbour is probably the nicest place to walk but the church and old town hall in the centre are quite interesting.

Incidentally my wife (VT member NHCRAM) tells me it is only about 20 minutes to walk to the castle . . . and it is supposed to be me who is the active one!!!

Thanks for the picture of the Premier Travel Inn. Never looked at your homepage before. I really enjoyed it! Now for another question. Are there any laundromats near the cruiseship dock? We will be coming back to Dover and will be staying on the ship for the Transatlantic. Would like to do laundry as it is alot to do on the ship. Is there anyplace downtown?

PS Tell your wife that a 20 minute walk depends on the person who is walking!

I think Castle Cleaning in Pencester Road would do a service wash, will check out to see if there are any more.
