Hiya

You'll have no problems getting a taxi here in Sheffield. There is a taxi rank outside the train station and there are always loads of black cabs waiting there. Alternatively, you can phone for a taxi from one of the private firms - I can dig out the phone numbers from Yellow Pages if you need one.

I guess the concert is at the Hallam FM Arena? There will be lots of taxis at the venue, but you might have to wait a while to get one.

Alternatively, you can catch the Supertram (www.supertram.com) to and from the arena. I don't know what time the last tram stops at the arena (I would guess that it's between 11pm and midnight), so it might well be that the trams have stopped running by the time the concert ends.

You can easily get a train from Sheffield Central station to Meadowhall (journey time is between 5 and 10 minutes) or, again, you could catch the Supertram (cheaper than the train, but it takes longer to get there - 20 minutes+).

Sheffield has a decent selection of restaurants, depending on what type of food you like. There are plenty of Chinese, Indian and other ethnic restaurants on London Road and West Street. There are a few decent Italian restaurants, too. You could drive (or take a taxi) a few miles out of the city centre and find a nice countryside pub.

You can find a good Sheffield restaurant guide here:

http://www.sheffieldrestaurant.co.uk/

My personal favourite restaurant is Zing Vaa Chinese restaurant on The Moor.

Enjoy your concert and have a great time in Sheffield!

Jonathan

Hi there, 28th April @ Hallam FM arena, so looks like its Westlife that You're going to see!
Your hotel is very handy for the train and bus station and supertram stops.
Personally, I'd advise getting to the arena by Supertram. The area around the Arena can get quite busy with traffic, when there's a concert on, so a taxi meter will be ticking over quite nicely! The trams stop at Centretainment, so it's just a 5 minute walk to the Arena. There are plenty of restaurants in Centertainment , but these can be quite busy when concerts etc are on. ( A few times, I've eaten here before a concert, and been delayed by slow service)

I'd advise leaving your hotel, turning right, and heading for the tram stop at Ponds Forge or Castle Square. Then catch a tram for Hillsborough/Malin Bridge/Middlewood. Ask for a daysaver ticket when you get on, which will cover you for your journeys. I'm not sure how much these are now, but I'll try and find out.Get off on West Street- there's a wide variety of places to eat- Tapas, Mexican, Lebanese, Indian, Italian, Chinese etc. (I can give you more detailed info about places to eat if you want)
When You've eaten , catch a tram on the left hand side, facing towards town, marked Meadowhall (Allow at least 40 minutes).
How long are you spending in Sheffield? Daysaver tickets are available on the buses too, with unlimited travel over 24hours, these used to include discounted travel on the trams too, but the rules keep changing.

Hope this is of some help to you, please contact me for more info.
Enjoy your concert, and your stay in Sheffield.

Sorry, meant to add, if You're pushed for time before the concert, There's a Chinese buffet place right next to the tram stop at Ponds Forge (opposite the Pool)for reasonable 'fast food'Personally, I think there are better places to eat, but it's an option if you're in a hurry.
