Hello all-

How safe is Cartagena for a woman travelling alone? Any "dangerous" parts of town?

I went to Cartagena with my Wife last year. I think the center is safe, all around i would never go alone, unless i was Colombian and spoke Spanish with a colombian accent

My daughter went there last year with her boyfriend who is German/Colombian .He's fluent in Spanish. She didn't feel threatened but said some of the vendors were really pushy and annoying. For example she was sitting on the beach, when they would come up, touch her, touch her hair and wanted to sell her things. It didn't matter how often she said "no gracias" ,they'd only stop when her boyfriend got angry.
Apart from scenes like these she loved Cartagena and had a great time.

No problem in the old city, Bocagrande, Castillo grande, Crespo and Manga.

By night you can also go safely through the old city and Bocagrande or even go into a discoteque in the historical old city !
