| Ha Long | Junk Boat Posted: Thu March 23, 2006 02:58 AM UTC
It seems like all the 2d1n trips to Ha Long Bay are charged at a high price. not less than 100 per head, sometimes even excluding the transportation between hanoi and ha long.
is it not possible to locate one that charges around US70 per head for a comfy night on the junk boat, all inclusive? appreciate any comments! Val |

What?? USD 100 ?? You are being ripped off!! Last year I paid USD 32 for the 3D2N trip to Ha Long Bay, all inclusive: transportation, meals, guide, tours, hotel, etc. I even had the choice of sleeping in the junk boat or at a hotel in Cat Ba.
I suggest you to arrange that tour once you get there, in Hanoi, not via internet. Regards and good luck, Rafa

Dear Val,
Everything worth your money, it's like when you buy a brand name T-shirt in the shop and a normal at the market. Emeraude Boat, Tropical sails and other 1st class boats are at that price. Depend on your budget, you can go with group tour at travel agencies int eh Old Quater. Everything is included at the price from 20 - 30$ for 3 day-trip. Pls remember: you get what you pay for. Cheers, Hien

$100USD for a 2d1n trips to HaLong Bay is VERY high. Last year I went there through the hotel I stayed in and I was charged $30USD per person. I thought the 2d1n trip at HaLong Bay were fair. I met a some folks on the boat. They all paid about 1/2 of what I paid. :P -- so, you don't get what you pay for. hahah :)
My suggestions are that you should walk around Hanoi and hit on some of those tour places. They'll give you a much better rate than if you pre-book in advance before arriving to Hanoi. They'll also charge you much less than the hotel rate. :) Have fun in Hanoi! -Duc

Sorry folks, you seem dont get the situation here. If you are talking about cheap budget tour, I think you can find the rate 13 - 15$ .
Cheapest at Chung Sinh tour on Ma may st. Every hotels and some travel agencies send customers to them. It's like you cant compare the Sofitel Metropole or Melia hotel with the minihotels in the Old Quater? Hien

Hien is right. You'll get what you pay for. If you pay for a $30 tour, you may be on a boat with ALOT of people and sleeping in some cheap place on Cat Ba island. We had a wonderful Ha Long overnight tour with 10 other people and one of the guy on there said that he took one of those $30 tour and was miserable. There was 30+ people on the boat and couldn't hardly get in the restroom on the junk and then they slept in some bum place on Cat Ba island. I don't remember how much mine was, but I had my own room. If you have a traveling companion, it's possible to share that room on the junk expense.
