Berchtesgaden Travel Forum

I was stationed in Salzburg, Austria between Dec ’53 – Sep ’55. Yes. It’s a very long time ago.
During those months I spent many weekends in Berchtesgaden creating memories, but those memories may be deceiving me now, on one point.

I remember a 2 or 3 level, outdoor, terraced restaurant at the edge of town that faced south. It is my impression that we could look out from there to the Watzmann, the Jenner, and the Konigssee between. Though the view is still vivid in my mind, someone has since told me that the lake cannot be seen from Berchtesgaden itself. Is this true? Is my memory playing tricks on me?

I think your mind is playing tricks! You can certainly see the mountains but Konigssee is about 5 miles away and hidden by them. We walked there and the lake didn't come into view until we were on the lakeside.I can't place the restaurant but there are quite a few. The best view of the lake is from the Jenner cable car.
