Petra Cairo to Petra to Tel Aviv
Posted: Mon March 20, 2006 08:41 PM UTC
What bus/train companies are there? I was going to fly but the price from Cairo to Amman $375 one way for only 295 miles seems steep. I am traveling with my boys ages 11 and 13. After Amman we would then make our way to Tel Aviv for a fight to Athens. Any insights bus/train companies for Petra/Amman to Tel Aviv?

If you are already in Petra, the best way to Tel Aviv is via Aqaba/Eilat, since the border crossing is much easier there than through the Allenby Bridge one. There are no direct buses from Petra to Israel. You must take a bus/taxi to the border crossing, cross the border, and then take a taxi from the Israeli side to Eilat (about a 5-10 minute ride). From Eilat, there is a regular bus service to Tel Aviv (about a 4.5 hour ride).

If you are in Amman, the best solution may be to take the only regular bus from Jordan to Israel, which goes from Amman to Nazareth (via the northern Sheikh Hussein crossing) and usually continues to Tel Aviv. This service runs usually 3-7 days a week, depending on demand.

Take a bus from Cairo to Taba in Egypt (Sinai). They leave from the Midan Abasiya and take about 6 hours. The phone number of the company is 261.4909

In Taba, cross to Eilat and straight away to Aqaba in Jordan. This is an easy crossing, and you shouldn't take more than an hour and a half from Taba to Aqaba. From Aqaba you have buses during the day (except Fridays) to Petra. The last one leaves at 3pm.

Check out www.jordanjubilee.com where you can read this route in details with approximate prices etc on the page called "Out of Egypt".

Will you not stop off in Wadi Rum?????

Remember its a 9 hour Bus trip to Say Nuweiba You can check out the cost via the Net, Then a Ferry across to Aqaba about $70, Taxi to Petra $100, Taxi to the Allanby Bridge $100, Maybe you can Cut the Taxi prices with a bit of Bargaining, Maybe Half that if you shop around, There are no shortage of Transport, There are Taxi's hanging around the Ferry at Aqabba. When I planned my trip 1 Male to Women, I found every bit of info on the Net and Its amazing what you learn, We went Night train to Aswan then down to Luxor, Bus to Hurghada, Ferry across to Sharm, Taxi to Dahba then to Nuweiba, Ferry to Aqaba and Taxi to Petra, Real easy Just like doing it at Home.
