Thessaloniki or Athens

Hello!
I am going to be in Greece in June and I am trying to decide whether to go to Thessaloniki or Athens. I have already been to Athens, but no one else in my group has. So, should I go to Athens again with them, or Thessaloniki?

Flying to Athens is cheaper and then Thess@loniki is just 14 euros and 5 hours away by train! (one way- www.ose.gr ).
If you have a week or more to spend, try to combine both! When in Thess@ try to explore the area around, mythical mount Olympus and the excellent beaches of Halikidiki (an hours drive/ 1,5 hrs bus ride southwest and southeast of Thess@).

Does anyone know how much a ticket on the overnight train from Thessaloniki to Athens would be? I would need a bunk to sleep on, and I could go on either the fast or slower train?
