| Vicenza | Vicenza, Padova or Verona??? Posted: Mon March 20, 2006 03:30 PM UTC
If you were to choose a place to rent an apartment for a week which would it be: Vicenza, Padova or Verona.
1. I will follow this with a week in Venice 2. I prefer the feel of smaller towns and love "living like a local" as much as possible 3. Want easy access to a main train line for exploring the area 4. Would love to be able to just head out and safely walk around looking at all the beauty of the city 5. This would be first week in June so the fewer the tourists, the better 6. Right now preference is Vicenza, Padova, Verona Thanks, Kathy |

any of the 3 is perfect.
Padova is in the middle in between Venezia and Verona. check www.trenitalia.com (english version too) so you can have an idea of train conections and time that you will use to get there. Padova is a students city, so mainly young people around, Verona is more turistic, Vicenza less but still charming.. hope this helps

I agree with the above posting and I would choose Vicenza among these three cities.
But, probably, my choice would be Treviso. Have you considered it as well? It has a clean city center and lovely corners on the Sile river. Also, it's even closer to Venice than the other three cities. Even a simple visit is suggested, and if you are there around dinner time try the "Beccherie" restaurant! Ciao Ant

Oh I plan to visit Treviso from Venice during my week there. Do you think Treviso would be a better place to rent than Venice? I know it is on a rail line and is very beautiful.

As for location, Treviso might be the best choice although I have no idea about rental availability and pricing as I only took advantage of city hotels. Hope some locals can give you a practical evaluation.
Enjoy the area! Ciao Ant

anywhere outside Venice is cheaper for renting, and yes, Treviso is lovely too

It seems that Venice just overshadows everything else. It is hard to get much other info. I have not been able to find any vacation rentals in Treviso - would want to be able to see pics on a web page. I will continue my search - any ideas where to look - I don't speak Italian.

Haha, and I would chose lovely Verona! Padova is simply too close to Venice - you could just as well make a daytrip from there. I didn't like Vicenza at all. Found the atmosphere...not hostile but odd. Few good eateries too. Although the Teatro Olympico has to be seen!!! Verona is fantastic - but I guess most of us VT members at the first "Euro VT meeting" would say that :)))

Yes from what I have read it sounds like the Verona VT meeting was a whole bunch of fun. Can you be more specific about what you did not like about Vicenza?
