Well, you could take the postbus from Brig to Taesch and change for the shuttle train to Zermatt (it's only about 150m from the train station to the bus stop). But I don't see much advantage arriving in Zermatt that late. It might be easier to try to stay the night in Brig (or Visp) and take an early morning train to Zermatt. Plus, if you miss the 1801 connection in Geneva, or if the train is delayed (rare in Switzerland but it still happens), you're stranded in Brig overnight anyway.
When you arrive the next morning, your hotel in Zermatt will probably let you store your bags until your room is ready for check-in, which leaves you free to hike, take the Gornergrat train, or do whatever else you want! Even if your hotel won't store your bags for whatever reason, you should be able to store them at the train station for a small fee. Enjoy your trip! Mark

I have been to both Brig and Visp. Brig is a lovely little place to stay overnight and most of the hotels I know of are within walking distance of the train station. Try the Hotel Simplon. Nice accomodations. My husband also stays in Visp and is pleased to stay at the Visperhoff.(????spl)
The ride from Brig to Zermatt is over an hour and you will enjoy the scenery if you choose to stay overnight in one of those towns. Look out for the llamas. Dana
