| Minsk | Is Minsk safe for tourists? Posted: Sat March 18, 2006 02:39 PM UTC
Hello,
We are a couple who is considering to go to Minsk for a few days. How safe is it for tourists there? Is there anything we should be extra careful about? Or anything that is good for us to know about? Also, if somebody knows about cheap accommodation there, please tell me about it. Information would be appreciated. :) Thank you! |

i have rented an apartment through belarusrent, last year my apartment was very central, close to the metro and shopping area.this year i have rented a bigger place. you can rent for short periods, we are paying 55 euros per night and there will be 4 of us in the apartment.
i went by myself last year and had no problems, not much english spoken, few tourists but i have friends there who help with translation i am going again on monday, i'll let you know if there are any problems

Minsk is a safe and clean city. You can walk around free. Of cource you should not walk at suburbs at midnight and leave you things everywhere. The rules are the same as for any Western European city.
As concerns hotel accommodation you can book either hotel Tourist at about 43$ per night for a twin room or Yubileynaya hotel for 56$ per night. Yubelienya is better option by the quality of accommodation and location. You can book these hotels at allbelarus.com or try any other sites for Belarus.

Yes, Minsk is safe for tourists and anybody else if they don`t roam at night in the isolated areas.
Just stay in downtown and you`ll be fine. We have a beautiful city and a very clean one too. Accomodation: http://www.members.virtualtourist.com/m/b1a10/53184/3/ Some places to eat at: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/b1a10/53184/2/

Yes, it's very safe. You can walk around at any time, take pictures, videos, talk to people, and there's nothing to worry about.
The cheapest accomodation I know is Hotel Yubileiny, 19 Masherova Ave. (Прос& Good luck!

I have been scouting for information about minsk for some time and so far generally. But I have heard that its better if you speak russian or belarusian. That might save you from jokers/scammers.
good luck!

oh, and just an additional info about accommodations,
i'm planning on staying with some friends in a private apartment like the ones in this site http://www.110apartments.com/new/en/search/belarus/minsk. We think it might be cheaper than a long stay in a hotel. any other suggestions? thanks!
