Hi, We would like to visit the falls in the last week of August but have been told there may be only a trickle of water? Is it worth going? Any comments appreciated Thanks

Apart from the falls being beautiful at any time of the year I would suggest getting hold of the Victoria Falls - Tourist Information Centre directly. Possibly they can help. Their email contact is vfpa@mweb.co.zw. According to details we have to hand the highest flows are between April/May with the lowest being between December/January. You would be there in the middle of those so it should be fairly good - not too much water and not too little. If you need any further info on the Falls, try our website - www.zim-sight.co.zw.
Have a magic trip and enjoy.

One thing is for sure, there will be more than just a trickle of water. The Vic Falls is, at worst, a spectacle that no-one can really be prepared for.

It is true that the levels in August might be lower than in the rainy season but it will still be worth your visit. Also bear in mind that, when the water levels are highest, the falls are less "viewable". The spray from the water becomes so fierce that large parts of the falls becomes obscured by it.

I was there the last week in Aug a couple of years ago. It's much much more than a trickle! It's deafening.See my page on white water rafting at the falls.I also went on a trip to Livingstone Island which takes you by flat bottomed boat to the very edge of the falls where Livingstone first saw the falls, it's amazing. You can stand on the edge and if you have the anatomy for it you can go swim with the guides to a rock pool literally on the edge and splash about seemingly hanging in the air.We went on the morning trip and got a 5* breakfast included. If you do this check out the loo,it's the most luxurious open air loo I've ever used. I also did Iguazu falls last August and I preferred Victoria, much more thrilling.
