Posted: Tue March 14, 2006 10:43 PM UTC
Hi, looking for some help, we are flying to the UK arriving at possibly Manchester Airport which I think is the closest Airport to Lincoln that receives International flights, can anybody let me know how far is it from Manchester Airport to Lincoln?
Also what would be the best way to get there, ie - one way car rental, taxi etc and the approx cost.
Thanks so much

Can't give you the exact distance, but it's quite a way. There are trains from Manchester Airport to Lincoln, quite frequently. Takes around 2 and a half hours, although you'll have to change at least once. www.nationalrail.co.uk for timetables and fares, www.thetrainline.com for ticket purchase if you don't want to get one from the station on arrival (not a problem, but sometimes you can get cheape fares in advance). Will cost around 50GBP return per person.

There may be a coach (www.nationalexpress.com) which will be cheaper but take far longer.

A taxi will cost a fortune, so is not an option imo. If you wanted to explore this option, you would have to search for and contact individual providers to get a quote and book in advance. Same applies to car hire. For a one-way trip you'll have to use the biggest firms (e.g. Hertz) and they will be pricey. Also, will you really want to navigate your way out of Manchester and across to Lincoln (at least 2 hours, I should think, probably more)when you've just arrived?

Hope this helps a bit.

It's about 100 miles from Manchester Airport to Lincoln, so I wouldn't recommend a taxi and one-way car rental is not usually offered in the UK.

I would recommend going by train. There is a station at Manchester Airport (http://www.manchesterairport.co.uk) from which you can connect to the UK's national rail network. The journey should take around 2 to 2.5 hours (not something you'll want to hear after a long flight, I know)

For more planning on the train side try www.thetrainline.com. You don't have to buy but it's a useful planning resource. Just specify your departure station as 'Manchester Airport' as the are other stations in Manchester.

Good luck.

the exact distance is 98.9 miles!
I've looked up the same thing. Check out mapquest on the net (not sure of the address, just type it into google)
One way car rental is offered by some car companies for 35 pounds. Train takes more than an hour, car should take less than one. According to mapquest.

Doubt you'd be far outside Manchester in an hour! Travelling 100 miles, especially cross-country, usually takes at least an hour and a half (unless all motorway, even then not guaranteed). Much also depends on the time of day/ volume of traffic. If you are going to drive, expect to take at least a couple of hours, allowing for navigation/ getting used to roads etc.
