Brighton Finding Holiday accomodation
Posted: Sun March 12, 2006 01:25 PM UTC
Hi,
We live in Italy and I'm thinking of spending the last 2 weeks in August with my husband, 17 year old son and his friend, in Brighton. Any tips on how to find holiday flat that is not too expensive. Also is Brighton a good choice for 2 boys of 17? Grateful for any help at all

Thank you
Irene

I suggest that you check with the Tourist Information Office, Brighton and they will also be able to suggest activities for the boys.

Brighton is particularly interesting for anyone who is interested in the Regency Period, but also has the amenities you would expect from a town/city of this size. It also has a high "gay" population.

typical seaside resort, loads of accomdation you'll have no trouble there, but there is a high gay population indeed, well known for it throughout the uk.

p.s. the best place too stay is on the seafront its self, i think there is a hotel called the grand or palace, anyway its a glass fronted building thats very nice

Brighton has a lot more than just a gay population. The reason it's known for having a gay population is because it's one of the more relaxed, progressive centers of England with a fair amount of counter-culture. I spent a year there when I was 19 and had a great time. London is a fairly quick train ride away (but then I'm from California where distances seem shorter than what English people consider long.) I suggest you talk to your son and explore the art, music, and other options of Brighton and Hove. There are two universities in the area, so I believe there are a fair amount of non-English people taking language classes during the summer. I would have no qualms or concerns about taking my 17-year-old sister there, knowing that she could entertain herself for a couple of weeks.

Unfortunately I am not able to help with the holiday flat, but I can say that I think your sons would really enjoy Brighton. It is a great town for holiday, especially in the summer. Beautiful waterfront. Also there are charming neighborhoods that have funky shops too (like the North Laine, the Lanes, etc.). Also, I think the Sussex countryside is beautiful (although that is really for you, since I'm not sure how much 17-yr old boys would appreciate it!). Hope you have lots of fun!

Ciao!

Thanks very much for your help. I am going to explore the costs of appartments now. At least I'm confident that there is plenty for the boys to do which is what was really my main concern
I may get back with other questions nearer the timme
ciao
