| Arequipa | How long...... Posted: Sun March 12, 2006 10:39 AM UTC
I'm flying in to Arequipa and then I need to get to La Paz. Does anyone know how long of a journey that trip is by bus? Are there any other ways to get to La PAz from Arequipa?
thanks in advance |

I've never done that trip... but I believe it would take you around 15 hours or maybe a little longer.
The best way is going to Juliaca or Puno... and then you can probably take something express to La Paz. It doesn't look that far in a map, but because of the highway through the mountains... it takes a lot of hours among all those towns. Plus the buses usually stop millions of times in villages and everywhere! Good luck...

rafgts has a pretty reasonable estimate. The bus from Arequipa to Puno is about 5 hours since the road paving. From Puno to the border is about two hours and then it is about 3 hours to La Paz, but you have to add some time for the border crossing and for bus connections. If you have to take lower class transport you could indeed encounter some serious stop and go delays. Good luck
