Temple of Abu Simbel Travel Forum

My friend and I were not originally planning to go to Abu Simbel -
we are in Egypt for seven days - and then we have to transfer
back to london so we can fly home to sydney. (we're getting a london
return ticket and doing europe and egypt)
I was wondering if it would be possible to do Abu Simbel as a day trip.
Unfortunatly we are not staying in Aswan (and it's really annoying that
you can't fly directly from Luxor)
We are in Cairo for 4 days
and Luxor for 3.
We don't want to travel by road - we want to fly.
Do you think that it's probably insane to try and do Abu Simbel in that time
or do you think it could be possible.

I had a week in Egypt last year - similar thing 3 days Cairo, 3 days Luxor (I flew from Cairo to Luxor)

Personally, I would cut Cairo down to 2 full days, 1/2 day travel to Luxor, then have extra days in Luxor and get to Abu Simbel... Luxor was great and regretted not having more time "South".

You could decide to take the train to Aswan (3-4 hours) and book a flight to Abu Simbel from Aswan. I think it can be done in one day if the scedules are matching.
Why not inform with one of the many travel agencies in Luxor?

Our itinerary to the south and back up to Cairo went like this.

Overnight train Cairo to Luxor

Morning train Luxor to Aswan (a very very short trip, and as the train runs so early in the morning you have the whole day left in Aswan when you arrive)

First flight Aswan to Abu Simbel

Next day afternoon flight from Abu Simbel to Cairo

I think the EgyptAir flights cost around $150 for Aswan - Abu Simbel - Cairo. Can't be too sure but it was around this price.

In essence, the Abu Simbel leg took one day and a half at the end of the trip.

(My bet is you'll be back to Egypt again after you've been once. Get a richer friend and get them to cough up for your first class flights.)
