Posted: Fri March 10, 2006 08:14 PM UTC
My husband and I are leaving for Frankfurt, Hermany on April 14 our plane arrives on the 15. I need some ideas of what do to and where to go. We know of the castles but dont know about where they are. If anyone could give us information that would be wonderful. We will be there April 15-22.
Thanks

go to Sachsenhausen.

This is the nightlife center of Frankfurt.

Taste the "appelwoi" just sei "appelwoi"

It is similar to cider.

Have fun in FFM!

There is no shortage of castles in Germany, there are thousands.
Famous for it's castles is the Middle Rhine Valley which is approx. 60 km from Frankfurt.

Famous castle is Heidelberg Palace

Through Heidelberg goes also the Castle Road, and esp. in the nearby Neckar Valley there are a number of more castles

Also close to Heidelberg, but into the opposite direction is Speyer

The nearly 1000 years old cathedral there was the biggest church of the time (UNESCO World Heritage). Interesting is also the Technik-Museum in Speyer

In Würzburg you'll find another world heritage, the Residence

I wouldn't argue with the preceding suggestions. Frankfurt is interesting but not memorable. You didn't mention how you will be traveling. If you're getting a rental car at the airport it's just a short drive (1 hour) to Heidelberg which is very pretty and a "must see" on all itineraries. The aforementioned Romantic Road is very nice. It's also easy to get to the Rhein river by car from Frankfurt and I'd suggest you head for Rudesheim which is a picturesque , fun-loving, wine-drinking town on the river in the heart of the vineyards. From there you can take a river cruise (1-3 hours) past the Lorelei and numberous castles on the hillsides. If you're not traveling by car, these places can easily be reached by train. If you do need to travel by train, light rail will take you from the airport directly to the train station where they have helpful information desks to assist you in planning your trips.
