Sleep there? Posted: Mon March 6, 2006 04:00 PM UTC
Hi!!!
I´m planning a trip to Argentina and Uruguay on July. I´m planning to stay 3 and 1/2 days in Uruguay (1 in Colonia and the rest in Montevideo). I´ll spend the first days in Argentina, so I´m planning to take the ferry from Buenos Aires to Colonia.
My question is: What is the best option? To sleep in Colonia 1 day or just spend the day there and go to Montevideo in the end of the day?
Is there a place to leave my lugagge if I prefer to spend the day there and go to Montevideo on the same day?
Thanks for helping!!!
Regards,
Thiago

If it doesn't rain, I'd suggest you spend one night in Colonia, so you can have more time for seeing the old city and have dinner.
If it rains, I'd leave in the evening to Montevideo.

Hey, Thiago! Whatever you do, please make sure to be in Colonia *at night*. And have a magical dinner experience whether you eat at a fancy restaurant or at the two-tables patio I did; it'll be wonderful.
Cheers!

Enrique/Lilian,
Thank you very much for your replies!!! I think I´ll HAVE TO sleep in Colonia then... hehe
Would you recommend me any place to stay in Colonia and Montevideo? I´d like to spend around US$30/night for a couple.
Thanks!!!

Thiago,
Casa de los Naranjos - Posada
18 de Julio 219 - Tel/Fax (598-522) 4630
www.colonianet.com/naranjos
I stayed there long ago, so maybe I don't have the updated information. Let me know. They have rooms with original walls, and they have the oldest orange tree in the area, in Uruguay, I think.
Nos vemos!

I would try to spend an afternoon/evening in Punta del Este instead of two and a half in Montevideo. In July is going to be cold... but you will avoid all the crazyness of the summer tourists, and it's like just two hours by bus so you can get there and back in less than a day.

I´ve checked the web site of Casa de los Naranjos and it looks really nice!!!
Rafael, thank you for the Punta del Este suggestion. I´ll certainly think about it...

Hello again, Thiago!
I take back what I said about the Posada del Naranjo. I just stayed there a few days ago. The place is still very nice, but the attention is not good at all.
We found another good place, not as nice, but still enchanting --and cheaper. It's the Posada de la Flor - Ituizangó 268, phone: 598-52-30794; website: http://www.guiacolonia.com.uy/posadadelaflor/index.htm
Bye, bye!
