| Lago di Como | Accomodation in lake como Posted: Mon March 6, 2006 07:18 AM UTC
Hi, my friends and I are thinking of visiting lake como towards end of August. We all love scenery, but wouldn't love to stay in a deserted quiet place in the eve. can you please suggest where is the best to stay in the lake to have a combination of restaurants, bars and cafetterias in the eve, but which is accessible for day trips to other places? Also, would appreciate it if you indicate names of hotels. 10x

I don't know what type of accomodations you are looking for but my family stayed at the Youth Hostel on Lake Como and had the most beautiful view from the porch in our room.
In the evening there was a bar-b-q and party for all. It was a pleasant surprise.

The town of Cernobbio is quite nice... right on the lake and within a very short distance of Como itself. There are some lovely hotels near the water and lots of good restaurants. I remember the Villa Olga as being in a good location. If that town is too quiet, you can always hop into Como for more activity.

Zuriga has got it quite right. cernobbio has a lot to offer as a place to stay and has lake ferry service. It is the next town up from como which is a larger city with a big active square on the lake. Other villages may be more quaint but in general night life on Lake Como is somewhat limited. The best access for travelling the lake will probably be from como. Recommended visits include Tremezzo for the villa carlotta and Bellagio. will you have a car?

Another nice place to stay is Menaggio or Gravedona, about 30 Km far from Tremezzo. You can reach these towns by car or boat (three journey a day).
Here are link to see the hotel in Menaggio: http://www.venere.com/search/index.php?geoid=321&a Ciao
