| Guilin | Guilin or Yangshou as a base? Posted: Sun March 5, 2006 07:35 AM UTC
I will be travelling to Guilin for two or three nights and was wondering if its better to be based in Guilin or Yangshou? Which place is more convienent to major sights, prettier and not so overtouristy? Thanks.

yangshou is one of the prettiest places on earth.
it's also quite small which makes it a perfect base for exploring.

during my 18 years of travelling around the world in 60 different countries, i would rate yangshou as one of the 10 most beautiful places i have seen.

Yangshuo is a pretty little town. Guilin is the pretty, but not-so-pretty step sister.
Guilin is more convenient to other major sights like Longsheng rice terrace (awesome!) and Sanjiang (the Dong bridge is amazing!). Both these places are to the north of Guilin. Yangshuo is very touristy. Guilin is also very touristy but it covers a larger area.
