Hi,
i'm planning to visit Acores this spring and climb the Pico if possible. Please help me with some details as regards the journey.
1. how to get to Isla de Pico - what would you recommend (ferry or plane, how long does it take etc).
2. what are the usual weather conditions in April there? is it a good season to climb Pico?
3. is guide recommendable for this mountain or if someone has some experience in mountaineering should manage to climb it without help of a guide.
i will really appreciate any tips.

Faial island have a international airport, from there you can take a boat 30-45 min i think to Pico.

April is a good month but it can rain.
I never been up the hill but i know there are some (small lines) way to go up...
After you there try to contact a tourism office and i think they can tell you where to find someone to guide you there.

I was in Pico Island once and, unfortunately, I had to time enough to climb the mountain. I had information about a guide...They advise traveller to find a guide because there is only one way to enter the upper crater. If you find a group will be cheap.
I think you are coming here from Lisbon. You can check for a DIRECT flight to Pico Island. Check the website www.sata.pt. Anyway, from Faial Island connections by boat are regular and takes only about half hour.
