Who knows the most of exciting/interesting places in Seoul?
Posted: Tue February 28, 2006 03:30 PM UTC
Hi all,

I have a question. Actually, its for a broadcasting company in Holland. They will go soon to Korea to shoot some interesting places. But.... they also wants to see some funny, interesting, amazing places which you CAN'T find in Europe.

Anyone has some suggestions?

Thanks for your attention....
Regards,
Kim

For Seoul, that would definitely be the numerous royal palaces!
Check out my Seoul page for details.
Or what about the Korean saunas (JimJilBang)? ;-)

As for Korea in general, you might wanna consider Jeju-Do, the beautiful island in the south. Lots of Korean dramas (soap-operas) are shot on Jeju Island. It really has a lot of nice scenery.

Cheers,
Robert

Definitely Gyeongju!!! Lots of huge burial mounds there and it makes the whole place looks very surreal (see my gyeongju page if you don't believe). Go there during spring time for filming, it's very beautiful.
And yes, i agree with the previous post, Jeju is another amazing place, used to be a volcanic area, so there's lots of old craters, a really huge volcanic underground tunnel and an old volcanic peak with the top blown off - seongsun illchulbong.
I can go on and on but i don't want to hog this forum;p

You will find some funny and interesting things without having to look. Especially things you won't see in Europe. Film the driving for one. Go to a dog eating restaurant or one where they eat the live octopus.

Thank you all! Good to know.

I got some other questions, can somebody tell me where you can find the most famous dog eating restaurant or where you can eat a living octopus? Thats really amazing... (I would never eat dog or octopus to be honest... I like animals too much) but the others would like to see such things.
Besides that, is there a special typical korean nightclub/hangout in Seoul?

Great to hear from you jeong cheon, any new pages of korea lately?

Honestly speaking, I have not seen any doggie restaurants in seoul or anywhere else in korea - do they still practice eating dog meat over in korea? I know they still do that in vietnam - i saw roasted dogs in a restaurant when I was in hanoi.

Hmm, eating live octopus, I guess you can do that in sokcho, a little sea side town not too far from the scenic Mt Sorak. Had really fresh sea food when i was there.

First I disagree with Seoulgirl about the driving. I have been to Paris and the driving there is pretty close to Seoul and Rome is not far behind, including the scooters on the sidewalk and such. About the dog resturaunts, I know of a couple down in Songtan and one just south of Osan city, but not any in Seoul I can point out to you. By the way, they don't eat it roasted; but stewed and it is not an everyday dish (costs a bit too so you won't get it by accident). About the live octopus to eat, you can get that almost anywhere. A decent (huge menu) seafood place or market area hole-in-the wall resturaunt should be able to accomodate you. Finally, I can't believe no one mentioned Lotte World or the Folk Village as unusual and interesting stuff you can't find in Europe. If you are really interested in finding the specail "meals" in Seoul, I suggest you contact the Korean National Tourist Organization and request a goodwill guide that can take you to one of these place.

Check out places called "jimshilbangs". Korean version of bathhouses or saunas. Gotta see em to believe. Kinda strange. Surprised me really and I'm from New York.....:-)

Hope this helps.
