| Tangier | Where is more nicer to stay overnight - Tangier or Fez? & train journey time btwn is? Posted: Sun February 26, 2006 10:28 PM UTC
Can anyone tell me how long a train takes from fez to tangier? are they frequent?
I will be in fez for a day and i am not sure whether to stay overnight there, or in tangier. Where is nice to stay - fez or tangier? i will then travel on ferry to algecrias ( 2hrs), then take a 4 hr trin journey to malaga. i want to get to malaga at a reasonable hr |

i would recommend the 2 hour bus from algeciras - it leaves just over the road from the ferry terminal and is only 11 euro to malaga. they go fairly frequently though they did cut out some of the times so that they are not quite so frequent.
if you were going to go by train i would recommend making sure you travel the first stretch in daylight as its recommended as one of the best journeys in andalucia - and then stay the night in lovely Ronda - its a lovely town perched up on top of a huge gorge with a gorge also thru the middle of it. and then on to malaga the next day.

The trains from Fez to Tangier take roughly 5 hours, you can check the schedule at www.oncf.ma
I think Fez is worth much more than just an overnight, but if you are trying to get to Malaga at a reasonable hour, bear in mind that the earliest train from Fez (7 a.m.) won't get you into Tanger Ville until roughly noon, plus waiting time, losing an hour when you get to Spain, you won't be arriving to Algeciras until at least 4 p.m. You may want to just overnight in Tangier and get an early ferry to be able to get to Malaga eventually at a good time. I've stayed at Ibn Battuta in Tangier which is nice, and the Hotel Continental which is a legend in its own right.

Tangiers is fun, but I think Fes is the more interesting of the two cities. Bear in mind the time difference between Morocco and Spain - currently you loose an hour leaving Morocco, but it's 2 hours during the summer.
Try http://www.triotours.com/faq/ma/travel-around-train.htm#1 They have a good train timetable, including night trains. None of my business, but it sounds like you might be trying to do too much inn a day.
