Hotel in Mestre area or Central Venice
Posted: Thu February 23, 2006 06:08 PM UTC
Hi,

What's your opinion on staying in Mestre area instead of Central Venice?
I hear it's a 10 min. train ride to Central Venice?

I just want some place clean, basic and cheap as I'm only going to be sleeping in the hotel. I know it's not the same as staying in the actual city but I don't mind as long as the hotels are cheaper (are they?) and it's not really far from the sites.

Thanks!

Yes, hotels in Mestre should be cheaper than in Venice. The travel from both towns takes 10 or 15 minutes.

Maurizioago is right, the hotels in Mestre are considerably cheaper than in Venice and it's just a short train ride -- most trains in and out of Venice S. Lucia stop there and last year the ticket cost 1 Euro one-way -- I stayed in Venice and then in Mestre and didn't find any problems with staying there -- as you come out of the train station there are a few hotels to choose from -- have a great trip.

I stayed at Hotel Bologna Mestre last year was right across from train station and I liked it. I have stayed in Venice but this worked out fine and hotel was much cheaper than Venice by about 80 euro. It was 1 eur for 10 min ride into Venice.

Also you will find that buses run all through the night to Mestre so if you want to stay out past the last train you will never get stranded in Venice. Like the train, a bus ticket is 1 euro

Hi

I was thinking of staying in Mestre unil I found hotel Albergo Marin. www.albergomarin.it It's in Venice and is costing me 80 Euro in May for a private room (for two) with shared toilet. This saves you the hassle and cost of getting the train in and out every day, and if your time is limited like mine then you can relax a bit more and take in the atmosphere.

Enjoy

We are also staying at Hotel Bologna...and was wondering if Sandy12 could say how you liked it.
Sorry, I am new here and cannot figure out how to start a thread.
