We will be on a cruise that begins in Valparaiso on January 11, 2007. We fly in to Santiago and were wondering if it is better to stay in Santiago one night and tour the city some, then take a transfer tour to Valparaiso the next day to board the ship or would it be better to just get of the plane, tour Santiago and then transfer to Valparaiso and spend the night and get on the ship the next day? We will have had a 9 hour flight that lands in Santiago about 9:00 am. The ship leaves Jan 11 at 5:00 pm.

Hi
I would recommend to stay in Santiago and to make a tour to see the highlights of Santiago (Cerro Santa Lucia, Mercato Central, Plaza de Armas with cathedral, post office, Palacio de la Moneda and Cerro San Cristobal). You have to take a bus to Valparaiso, about a 1 1/2 hours drive; they are leaving from the metro station Pajaritos. There are 2 companies with regular busses to V. and they are leaving at least every 30 minutes. The last day you can visit Valparaiso. Specially the hills around the harbour and the cable cars are worth a visit. Happy travels Jaap
