Lots of Sailing boats travel there all year round, the island hopping is the most fun thing to do while close to the area, the marinas are very well equipt to handle all kinds of traffic and you get to visit some places where you'll be the only soul on dry land, must be careful to pick up after yourself while there, if it came with you it must leave with you!
naval high-speed gun boats are a pretty common sight around so be on the look-out for them! And have a good chicken meal! LOL

I was in Diego Garcia for six months. It sucked for me there because there was hardly any women on the island, nothing but drunk Merchant Marines and Navy. Very boring place. Aside that, the fishing was great in the Lagoon, you could do sailing but none of that was allowed outside the lagoon. I wouldn't recommend those islands. Totally secluded, and after a while, you climb the walls.
