I recomend El rosal, it is very good lokated have access to the better areas of caracas (near shopping mall Sambil, walking distance), it is very safe.

el alto hatillo can be very nice but need car to move around and there is trafic to go down

I'd go for El Rosal. It is more centrally located-- walking distance to many places. Alto Hatillo is fine if you have a car but will not be as close to everything. Both are nice areas of town. El Rosal is more "city-like" and Alto Hatillo isn't quite so city, if that makes a difference.

Luna,

From reading your email I think you might be latina. In this case it will be a little better for you. I live and work in Orlando as well. I've been to Caracas 5 times in the last two years. My friends mostly agree with the recommendations you've received. El Rosal is better located for a short stay. I'm sure your friends in CCS (Caracas) will help you avoid the bad places. I wouldn't suggest you travel alone after dark in any part of town. The best advice is to travel with educated local people who can keep you out of trouble. Keeping that advice in mind dispite the political instability, Caracas and the other cities of Venezuela are a wonderful place to vacation. The people are well educated and friendly and very happy to have us there.

I would avoid discussing politics, and if you must do it carefully and inside the home of a close friend whom you trust. The country is sharply divided between those that support Chavez and those who are against him.

If you'd care to tell us more about your trip, perhaps we could help you in other ways! -Don
