| Delft | transportation in delft Posted: Sun February 19, 2006 10:25 PM UTC
Is there a reliable bus or tram system within the city? Is it easy to get most anywhere or are there areas of Delft that are not serviced by public transportation?

Everything is served by public transport, but all the buses go first to the train station. From my place to the office is 25 minutes walk and this is faster than the bus. There is one tram line that eventually runs to the Hague, and two train stations - Delft and Delft Zuid.

Delft is quite small with all the historic bits maybe 10 minutes walk apart. A half day visit would be plenty, it's not got the great art galleries like The Hague or even Rotterdam, both of which are less than 20 minutes by train in either direction.
Dutch transport is incredible, far-ranging and reliable, a model I wish the UK could follow!

Thanks for your reply. Specifically,I will be staying at the south end of Roland Holstlaan and working on Oude Delft. Will I be able to take a bus to work? Unfortunately, I can not use the transport website as it does not translate into English.

Take tram #1 from the Aart van der Leeuwlaan tramstop (5 minutes walking from the Roland Holstlaan) to the Binnenwatersloot tramstop. From there it's 3 minutes walking to the Oude Delft.
The tramride is 6 minutes and costs 2 strips from a "Strippenkaart"; see: http://www.vbn-bv.nl/ovinfo/algemeen_en.asp?vPaginaID=204 PJ

Otherwise, it is 25 minutes walk or 10 minutes buke ride.
Pieter Jan, thanks for your comment. I actually work at the university.
