850 BD
Posted: Sun February 19, 2006 07:03 PM UTC
I am moving to Bahrain in a few months. My question is: I have 850 BD for housing that I have to spend each month. Otherwise, they take it back. So, what could I expect to get for that? Would it be possible to get a car with that. I will be there for over a year. Any other input as to what to expect from this move would also be great. Thanks.

850 BD ONLY for housing allowance? Wow, that's overloaded, even if you'd take 3 bed rooms villa/house (the normal one not a luxury one).

What do you expect for the house (facilities, location, bed rooms, furnishing, etc)?

I'd use some for 2 bedrooms house/apartment, rent a car by monthly, and I would still have spare.

Visit my Bahrain VT pages for rough costs.

Thanks,
Do you have any idea what kind of "extras" a person can get for that kind of money? I have to use it so cutting things out isn't really an option. Do landloards throw in things like cars while you are there? I have heard you can get housekeepers, too. It's just me, so I don't need a lot of space. All my furnishings will stay here while I am gone, so furnished is a must. I would just want a nice place with a car if possible. Hopefully somewhere close to things to do. I am recently divorced and hopeing to start getting on with my life. I guess that means starting to get out again. So, location is pretty high on priority. Any info on where to life would also help me a lot. Thanks again.

It depends on how you deal with the employer regarding facilities. If you base salary apart from 850 BD allowance is save enough, you can spend all 850 BD for:

- nice furnished 2 BR apartment/villa rent (considering you're single so you don't need bigger one).
- nice 4x4 car rent
- monthly utilities
- laundry
- satellite TV
- broadband internet

Those only if your employer doesn't care the expense details and you can claim all.

And your full salary you can use for beers and girls. LOL.

For nice apartment I'd suggest in Juffair area. And for villa I'd suggest in Budaiya area. Those areas are nice and popular for expats.

After all Bahrain is small. Even if you stay in the farthest part of the country, you'll spend only 30-45 minutes to reach city center.
