I'm assuming you're talking about Ozamis City, Philippines.
It is hard for locals to get tourist visas. That is because most of them do not return. Try the work visa route, that might be better

Hi,
are you talking about her coming to the UK? I was in Ozamis a few weeks ago as I catch the ferry from Mindanao acroos the bay. If you are UK-based, I can advise, so please contact me if you wish via email here Ed

I think it is always hard for single women from the Philippines to get a tourist visa. If you two are planning to have a future together then I think it is good to opt for the fiancee thing. Yes it takes a lot of paperwork and time but then if its love then its worth it. And with this type of visa I think it is helpful to get an immigration lawyer to help you out. I have heard a lot of success stories about this. I am not sure about the working visa thing but why not give it a try? I think you should consult people from the embassy and try to learn more about this things before you tell her to reapply again. It is nice to be well informed. Please ask more :)

The chances of her getting a US visa is very slim especially if she has never been out of the country. A week or two from your schedule would suffice should you wish to come here and see her.

Hi NY
I came home from Ozamis just weeks ago. yes Mindanao has a bad reputation, but Ozamis is actually a safe place. The Mayor there is a firmer crook..., so he has got order, haha. VISA is always hard, here in Europe we have Schengen VISA, but I am able to get my gf here on tourist VISA. Yes when you run your own business it can be hard to go there, but I think you can apply for fiance VISA, my sister in law is moving to Arizona in October, to get married there. Geir

thanks for the info but they denied her a visitor visa. Is that the first time you have been there and did you try to get a fiancee visa or you just got a tourist visa, and is your sister in law coming to usa on a fiancee visa or a tourist visa if you dont mind me asking how did you meet your girlfriend .I dont know if it is easier to get a visa to norway or usa but it seems like its very hard for them to come here to usa I met her almost 1 year ago and I thought I could just send her a ticket and she can just come here but now I see how hard it is after 9-11 well thanks again . charlie

Yes it is true that getting a US tourist visa is very difficult in the Philippines as most people don't go back. One has to convince the consul that she is coming back by showing social, family and economic ties here in the Philippines. Previous travels abroad would not work at all times. I could attest to that as I got denied for a US tourist visa twice even with my 4 Southeast Asian travels and my European tour. Your best options are to apply for a fiancee visa for your beloved, to marry her in the Philippines and bring her to the US, or to give her a working visa. Best wishes.

thanks for your reply I see you live there are you born and raised there or are you from europe or somewhere else and they turn you down for a tourist visa even you traveled before and came back that is terible before this adventure with my girl i never would have believed that someone from another country beside the US would not be allowed to just get on a plane and take a vacation anywhere in the world that they would like to go.Meanwhile here in the US half the country is foreigners and there are so many people from the middle east here which i would like to know how they get here were alot of terrosit come frombut i am also thinking about the work visa like you said but it takes long and she would have to go to school there for at least a year for nursing before even getting someone here to sponser her and as far as marring her there i hear that can take up to 2 years well nice to hear from you thanks charlie

I guess that leaves you with one option now: the fiancee visa, the easiest way, they say. Yet you can also try a student visa. It has been a trend here for professionals even doctors to take up nursing, which is said to be the easiest way to America. I, for one, is now on my 3rd year. :) Yes I am a 100% Filipina, born and raised in the Philippines. I wish you both the best.

yes, i'm taking nursing to migrate elsewhere... a bachelors degree in nursing is a 4-year course here. however, for bachelor degree holders, the entry level would be 2nd year as of date as opposed to 3rd year before 2004. there's a proposal though that bachelor degree holders must go back to 1st year if they enrolled in nursing in the next school year. as regards your query, i think you are referring to a diploma in practical nursing (equivalent to your LPN there) which just takes a year to finish here. in addition, a caregiver program takes only 6 months to finish here.

Sorry mate, I dont think that your girl will ever have a tourist visa from the US, neither a student visa for she will be asked for a lot of requirements like source of funding, proof of university acceptance and blah blah. Come to the Philippines and marry her, not unless you are already married there and will only want her for a mistress.
