| Zaanse Schans | Bicycling in Netherlands Posted: Fri February 17, 2006 06:58 PM UTC
I will arrive in the Netherlands by train on May 1, 2006. I plan to tour by bicycle for two days--May 2 and 3. I want to visit the flower fields and garden one day. I plan to see Zaanse Schans and Edam the other day. Is there a central location where I can go out and return each day and cycle no more than 60K each day?

Welcome to the Netherlands
The city of 'Haarlem' would be a possibility for you. Also a nice city itself. Have fun in my country

Hi there,
I disagree about the city Haarlem. I think it would be a lot easier if you stayed at a hotel in Edam. From Edam it's 25km (15,53 miles) to the Zaanse Schans. Also, Amsterdam is very close for you to visit, 18km (11,18 miles) I found a hotel in Edam, http://www.fortuna-edam.nl/ You're able to read it in English as well. Another possibility could be the city Purmerend, it has a very convenient position towards Edam and the Zaanse Schans. I hope that I've been helpfull to you. With kind regards, Marianne ( The Netherlands)

Hi Marianne
I realise the distances from Haarlem (especially to Edam). But what about the flower fields (tulips ??) and the garden (Keukenhof ??) ?? Jaap

yes, you're right about that.
But to go in two days to Zaanse Schans, Edam and the flower fields... I think it's going to be a huge distance to travel. Groetjes, Marianne
