Hello-

I am new to this website :-) so it is making me a little nervous. I hope to be at the right place to ask the following question...

I could use some help / suggestions with planning of a road trip (about 7 days) from Iowa to Arizona. My parents from Europe will arrive in Iowa sometime in March and plan on renting a car there. They would like to spend one week driving from Des Moines, IA to Phoenix, AZ. During their journey they would like to visit and see as many interesting places as possible - museums, parks, art, history, nature, .... anything interesting and unique to each state. Also, any advice as to where to stay (something more economical), during the 7 days on the road, would be much appreciated.

You will be able to go through some interesting parts of Kansas on this trip. Not too far off I-70 there is the Garden of Eden, which is a concrete sculpture garden in Lucas. There are some interesting rock formations near Salina, Mushroom Rock State Park. In Dodge City there is Boot Hill and some giant windmill fields in Spearville and Montezuma. Kansas itself is flat, but beautiful and there really are a lot of things to look at and find. Near Lindsborg, there is Coronado Heights which is a small castle built to mark the point where the Spanish explorer turned back to Mexico on his quest for the city of gold.
