| Edinburgh Castle | How to dress, what to see Posted: Fri February 10, 2006 03:11 AM UTC
Will be in Scotland (afore ye!) and Ireland in March, '06. Need to know how warmly to dress without looking like a total tourist first of all. Going to Edinburgh for sail training research at the University. Then, I want to see what I MUST see before flying to Dublin. Thanks

Layers, layers, layers... a variety, to add or remove as the weather changes (and it probably will, UK weather is unpredictable). Hat, scarf, gloves. Waterproof jacket. Fleece jackets are good for underneath a thinner outer jacket. Waterproof shoes/boots, not just trainers. Warm socks. Avoid baseball caps, bum bags and cameras round neck!

And I wouldn't bother with an umbrella as although there's bound to be rain, it'll probably be too windy to use a brolly!

And if you follow the advice don't take it personaly if you have to carry all your clothes because its far too warm to wear them.
It just may be sunny and warm. Today the weather is fine and sunny with no wind. Spring will be in the air come March.

Very close to the main entrance to the Castle on the Royal Mile is the Camera Obscura that is well worth a visit, see my Edinburgh page for more details and directions. Right opposite that is the Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre, they have a guided tour that takes you through the history of whisky, plus you get a little sample.
Enjoy your trip
