Kunming Travel Forum

My son is having a week of exams at the end of February and immediatlely afterwards he leaves for a trip to Asia, starting in Beijing.Since he is really studying hard right now, he asked me to so some final research about his trip. From Beijing he's going to Tianjin, then to Kunming.He had planned to go to Xiamen afterwards and fly to Bangkok from there.
Now he learned that there are flights from Kunming to Bangkok, much easier for him.
Thai Airways is the only airline I found which can be booked from outside China. But they have only business class left for the weekend of March 10 - 12. I also checked their flights to Chiang Mai that weekend, the same, only business class.
Is there something special going on this weekend , like the end of a conference, so that all economy seats are taken? Or is the Thai Airways website not working properly?
Does anyone know of any other airline flying Kunming to Chiang Mai or Bangkok?
I'd appreciate any help.Thank you.

You are a really good mum, I saw you had prepared everything for his trip.
For the flight, I think you may try to call ctrip, 0118621-34064888. Their website is http://english.ctrip.com but you won't be able to find international flights from there.

Its true there are a few websites in china that have an english page but none of them showe prices for international flights or availability come to think of that... they are www.ctrip.com...www.yoee.com...oh and the other one slips my mind...he would need to find out once he got here by going into travel agencies..they are all over town and with a bit of chinglish, he could work it out...

Thank you for the links. In Kunming he will be in the company of his German-Chinese friend, so she could book for him. We thought he could book from here, since after Kunming he'll be going to Thailand. Right now he's considering flying out of Xiamen instead.

there are definitely flights from kunming to bangkok, but they might as you have proved be difficult to buy from abroad. He is going to ahve a much easier time havig his friend ring up some places when he gets here and or go into some travel agencies and buy it straight out that way. The thing about domestic travel in china (although i know this isnt going to be a domestic flight!) is that they tend not to buy in advance, but merely the day before. So my point being that they do the same for international flights sometimes too, so i wouldnt worry about there not being any tickets left for the day he wants. I wish I could be of more help to you.
