B & B's in and around Galway
Posted: Thu May 22, 2003 06:12 PM UTC
My husband and I are considering a trip to Ireland for early October. I have been previously to Galway, Wicklow, Bray, Dublin, but I have stayed with a friend. We would like to stay in a nice, but reasonable B & B while we are in the Galway area. Can anyone give me some suggestions and perhaps some advice on places like Dingle, the Aran Islands, etc.? We would like to be able to travel around and see things that are NOT on a tourist map. Thank you very kindly.

Hi!

I stayed in nice B&Bs both in Dingle and on Inishmore (Aran Islands). The addresses are on my Ireland page.

Unfortunately I wasn't lucky with finding a good B&B in Galway so far so I can't help with that one.

Hope you'll find something nice!

I stayed in a fantastic B&B right outside Galway City.. on the Connemara Bay. The name was Son Amar.. pic of it on my Galway page. The room was lovely and the spot very convenient for sightseeing. This was 3 years ago, so I'm sure it's still there.

Thanks for your help! I surely appreciate it. Now, just one thing. I'm VERY new here so, how do I find your page? Do I click on your name/profile?

Thank you , Zuriga. I'll ask my friend in Ireland to make a phone call and see if it's still there. I would like to explore that part of Ireland. Last time I was there, my visit to Galway was brief and I didn't get to Connemara or Innishmore or anything else. But Wicklow is gorgeous and I did enjoy that.

I found your page! I just need to explore a bit. What a wonderful time you've had! I think I'll put some things on my homepage about my travels. I do love to travel. No pictures as of yet, as I don't have a digital camera and my husband has to help me with scanning.

Hi,

When you arrive in Ireland you can pick up the 2003 B&B listings at a tourist office. It costs 5 Euro and has a picture of every house in it.

When you are in Dingle you could visit the Blasket Islands. The Great Blasket was inhabited until 1953, and you can visit the remains of the village. There are some pictures in a travelogue on my County Kerry page, if you are interested.

There is an interesting place some 10 miles south of Clifden , called the Coral Strand. Pieces of an ancient coral reef are washed ashore here. I remember staying in a great B&B just beyond it, on a small peninsula. Not sure what the name was, and if I can find any more information - but it's a great area, also the mountains inland from here.
If you head down to Dingle, maybe stay there for several days - and then you also include the Beara peninsula!
Enjoy your stay,
P.

Thank you for your suggestion. If our Ireland trip materializes, I think I would like to visit the Blasket Islands. Very pretty pictures, by the way. I was born in Germany and went back there two years ago, but did not get to Dusseldorf.

Thank you for your suggestions! I can see that there is more of Ireland to visit than just the cities and tourist places, and that's exactly what I want. I will certainly keep your suggestions on my list as we continue to plan. Thanks, again.

If you love rural and beutiful - go west from Galway to Carna - the Sandy Beach B & B. Sorry - I don't have the website, but it is listed in the Town and Country book on Mweenish Island. TERRIFIC!

I'll do a search on it and I'm sure I can find it in my Rick Steve's travel book. Yes, I do love rural and picturesque. Like I said, I want to be around the regular people and not tourists.
