| Guinea-Bissau | Is it worth a visit ? Posted: Thu February 2, 2006 06:45 PM UTC
Has anyone made the trip from Gambia to Guinea-Bassau by bush taxi. How long does it take, cost etc.
Any idea what a Brit needs in the way of Visa's. Many thanks. Raykey. |

Hi
You can find the entry requirement details (as well as useful information and a country guide) on the Foreign Office website: ENTRY REQUIREMENTS British nationals require a visa to enter Guinea‑Bissau. Guinea‑Bissau does not have an Embassy in London. Visitors can contact the Guinea‑Bissau Embassy in Paris at 94 Rue St Lazare (tel: +33 9 452 61851). Guinea‑Bissau also has Embassies in neighbouring countries, including Senegal, which issue visas. Source: http://www.fco.gov.uk/servlet/Front?pagename=OpenM

If you do go ahead with the trip I'd be interested to hear how you get on. I keep looking at Gambia as a potential destination and would certainly want to visit Senegal and Guinea-Bissau whilst there if possible.
As far as I can see, the main problem is that to get from Gambia to Guinea-Bissau you have to pass through the Casamance region of Senegal which the Foreign Office highlights as being a bit dodgy. Best wishes, Jonathan

Hi Jon,
Done Gambia quite a few times now and I have been told it's seven hours by bush taxi, which could be quite an experience. However I am hearing there are flights to Guinea Bassau from Gambia, but I think it might be via Dakar with Air Senegal. Last time I flew Air Senegal it cost around D7000 for a return trip Dakar-Banjul, not cheap. Hoping to return to Gambia in April so i will check it for myself at that time. Regards, Raykey.

Hello!
It is not difficult to travel from te Gambia to Guinee-Bissau. Take in Serrekunda a bushtaxi to Ziguinchor and there you find many bush-taxis to Guinee-Bissau. Before you go to Bissau you are also welcome at our place in the Casamance, in Abene, easy to find with a bushtaxi from Brikama(Gambia) to Abene. Also we can take you in the Gambia. Look at our site: www.odunbeyeland.com/en/ You are higly welcome! Adri Zegers I live in the Casamance since 12 years. It is the most beautiful peaceful part of Senegal

I am being told it cost around a D1,000 for the trip by car, any idea how much it is by bush taxi ?
Do the cars/taxis only go to the borders or do they go all the way from Serrekunda to Bissau ? Ideally I would like to fly but I understand there are no flights now, is that correct ? Thanks for your help. Raykey

Hello,
The price from Serrekunda by taxi-bush is about 10.000 cfa = 500 dalassies. When you like to hire a private car, you will pay a lot of moneye I can give you a phone number in the Gambia from one taxidriver, who is original from Guinee-Bissau. Therefore you have to send me a private mail: adri@odunbeyeland.com To take a bushtaxi you go first to the border with Senegal; then you transfer for a bushtaxi to Ziguinchor. At the busstation you find easily a bushtaxi for the capital Bissau. There are no flights from the Gambia to Guinee Bissau as far as I know Greetings, Adri Zegers
