Is is worth renting a car while staying in Antigua or are the local taxis and buses cheap and reliable enough?

many parts of the island are very remote. at night they will be pitch black, animals walkign in the road, 4 foot high weeds, . . . So if you plan on going all over the island, you should probably rent a car.

Car is best - also means that there is no waiting - just go where you please.

Rent a car. Get a good map. Listen to the directions from the car rental person. Prepare to get lost at the "round-a-bout". Truthfully, get a car. the island is big. The island is beautiful. The beaches are endless. The public transport did not appear to be reliable. While driving, relax, slow down, see the sights and enjoy.
