Luang Prabang Laos - Luang Prabang: expected costs
Posted: Wed February 1, 2006 04:02 PM UTC
I'm going to be visiting Luang Prabang for 4 days in May and was wondering if you could give me some advice on how much I should expect to pay for food/tours? I'm interested in river cruises and elephant treks.

I've booked my accomodation already. Tours advertised online seem quite overpriced. Can anyone recommend an agency I can book with, or i it's better to wait until I arrive.

Thanks!

Hi there!
LP is a brilliant place, food is cheap, reckon less than 10 us a day for good food. tours are probably best to get whilst in LP, a bit of a hassle but easier to bargain. No day tip should exceed 10 us.
A hint, if possible; head up to vang vieng (a few hours busride away)and chill in one of the coolest places in Laos. A boattrip up the Mekong is also a great experience. You can catch a ride up to the golden triangle if youre up for a two-day by boat-trip.
Safe travels

I was there last December...there are tour operators all over the place. there's also a nightly market where you can eat...and very cheap. I'll be back in March...and can't wait. It's a fabulous place!

Thanks for the advice. I've budgeted $9 per day for lunch and dinner, so I'm hoping this will be enough. Does anyone know what are the supermarkets are like?

I don't think that there are supermarkets...but there is a daily market...a quick (and cheap) tuk-tuk ride away...where you can eat well...and be off the tourist beaten path. I forget what it's called...but you'll have fun! (just ask someone....)
