Provincia de La Habana Discovering Havana

Dear travellers,
I intend to spend a week in Cuba in two weeks from now and I think it would be a pity to stay in a resort. I want to see how people live, so I want to go to Havana. I thought it would be best to stay in a Casa Particular. Would you, please, give a hint about where I should be located - Vedado, Centro Havana or Old Havana. Also, I was wondering whether I need to rent a car for Havana and of course, where to go. If you have a great experience with a Casa Particular, please, let me know.
Thank you very much!

Hello...VT is the right place to answer anything about travels. There are lot of casas on Vedado, Centro Habana and Old Havana. Depends on what U're looking for. Vedado is near from all the night clubs and discos, it has the majority of theaters, cinemas and restorants. But Centro Habana and Old Havana are closer to the historic places like Basilica de San Francisco, The Cathedral, Plaza de Armas, etc. So it's your choice where to stay. My advice is not to rent anything previous to your arrival and then spend some hours the first day looking some casas because also the owner and the prices can have the final answer into your final choice.

Renting a car can be somewhat expensive. Spect to find high fares. There are also private cars, people that rent their cars to tourists but watch out, the cars can be in very bad mecanical conditions so be carefull. If U plan to stay only in Havana, better just walk or take "almendrones", the vintage cars that U'll see everywhere on the streets of Cuba. Or U can rent a "bici taxi" that is just a bicycle with 3 wheels and 2 seats with protection for the rain or the sun. If U plan to visit places in the country side, U can usa Via Azul bus company or just rent a private car with driver for one day.

Places to visit in Havana? Check out my things to do travel tips:

There U can choose from many different places.

I'll be glad to help U on any way. Write to me if U have more questions, I'll answer them with pleasure :) Also, if U want a friend in Havana to chat for a while and to show U some beatiful hidden places, I can recomend U my best friend in Havana. I lived in Havana for 28 years so I left there many many good friends that know havana as well as I....have fun!

Hi,

thank you so much for your answer!Your website is great, I will definitely see some of them! You convinced me on not renting a car. With respect to the reservation for a casa, I'm a bit hesitant, since I would like to have some security when we arrive. I found some addresses, but as you say - I would have no idea whether it would be a good place. I am not opposed to pay a bit more, but I'd like to have a nice place with nice hosts. Probably what I could do is to take a few addresses and to visit them when I arrive. I found a website with some addresses - http://cubanow.org/restorants/. In case, you know a website or an address, send me a word! Thank you very, very much!
