I know there are various sharks around Bora Bora and I'm wondering if anyone's ever heard of an injurious encounter.
Also, apparently some of the best snorkeling is around the motus, but I thought sharks were known to lurk and attack around such sand bars. Or is that just tiger sharks? I don't scuba and I plan to do little else but snorkel if I go to Bora Bora. Thanks. |

While we were snorkeling there among the reefs, we saw a number of black tips. After we panicked, our guide said not to worry as they think our lily white legs were part of the coral and wouldn't bother us....he was right :)

Those black tips that visit the lagoon are harmless. We even had an excursion to see these sharks. Don't worry.

hi ,no the sharks arnt dangerous, blacked tipped reef sharks and lemon sharks are present, there is tours you can do either diving with them ,snorkeling wwith them or you can just sit in a boat and feed them ! but the guide always feeds them first ,so they wouldnt be hungry ! you should try scuba,in bora bora though !its fab ! you can do one introductery dive and instead of a pool they take you into the sea about 30 feet down , its about $60 ,but its inside the reef the first dive so there wouldnt be any sharks , but the fish are amazing !im so jealous if you go ,i love it in french polynesia youll have a great time !

I have never heard of anyone getting injured. I highly doubt anyone has been fatally injured as well. Trust me, the shark feeding expedition is quite safe and a must when you go to Bora Bora. I never felt threatened even for a second. You are much more likely to be struck by a bolt of lightening.
