| Uzhhorod | private visit Posted: Mon January 30, 2006 09:01 PM UTC
This summer I would like to try to visit Ukraine, on a 1-day trip from Slovakia. Travelling by my 14-year old VW bus diesel van. Is driving very different from driving in western Europe, how are things going on in Ukraine, what is interesting to see?

Hi if you want to visit only Uzhorod - it is senseless to go there by car.The city is almost on the border. We were there one day.We had left our car on the parking at the bar in Nemecke check point, had crossed the border by feet, then took the taxi (2km to the center).
You can stay few hours (particulary on Polish-Ukrainian border)on the border without any particular reason in your car, waiting for the passport check in- this is the main disadvantage of going there by car. BTW; 1.Enjoy open air folk museum in Uzhorod- near the castle. Uzhorod is 'the gate' into Wshidnie Karpaty mt. range. 2.Vihorlat mt.range, Morke Oko including is a quiet and lovely place- for easy hiking,Humenne- a nice palce, and a small open air museum, Zemplinska Sirava near Mihalovce-lthe lake is not so nice (a bit muddy), nicer is a smaller lake nearby (I don't remember the name). 3.If you are interested in Ukraine- go also to Lviv, Drohobyc, Sambir-close and easy access from Poland (again without car is more convienient -as it is relatively close to the border). If you want more details let me know. 4. If you want go further, and for longer period- consider travelling by car there.Ukrainians usually are very hospital.

I would like to cross from Uzhgord to Kosice. Is there a regular morning bus, or is it best to walk over the border and get a bus in Slovakia (I have no car)

get from the city (marshrutka?) to the border and better walk over.It looked quick as I had done it.Consider buses Nemecko-Michalovce then Kosice.
