my fiancée and i will be staying in the cinque terre in the middle of september for a couple of nights and are looking for a reasonable place to stay - we are students and therefore not rich so looking for somewhere hopefully not more than £50 or so. a double room and preferably en suite and i would be looking for somewhere fairly central for all the villages. any ideas?

I would recommend the B&B da Baranin in Manarola - we liked Manarola the best of the towns as a home base - it seemed less crowded, less touristy.
