Why do all the hotels on Crete show two twin beds next to each other on their websites? Is this what they consider a "double" room? For example:

How do you get a double bed here?

Although it might not be the most ideal situation for couples, it's the way hotels maximize their ability to cater to the widest spectrum of guests. IF you ask for one large bed for two people and IF they have such a room, they will give it to you.

A double room in Greece usually does mean a room with 2 beds; you could say in your email that you want a 'honeymoon bed'. Seriously. Not all places will have that, but they do exist and they'll know what you mean. I am trying to think back to nights I have spent in Greek hotel rooms - I can remember the nights very well but I can't honestly remember whether they were spent in a big bed or in two beds pushed together.
