Kiruna Recommend a place to stay?
Posted: Wed January 25, 2006 03:04 PM UTC
My father and I are going to be hiking part of the Kungsleden trail this summer, and we're going to be spending one night in Kiruna after finishing our hike before we fly back to Stockholm.

I've heard about the STF hostel, but I'm not sure my father is excited about hostelling it. Does anyone know if you can get a double room at the hostel or if they only have dorm beds? Can anyone suggest a moderately priced hotel/motel/b&b(something around $100 or 700 SEK a night) in or around Kiruna? We're looking for something smaller and home-like, not as much a place for businessmen.

Any info would be appreciated!

Hello,

I've never stayed at the STF hostel in Kiruna but at some others. They are usually really nice. There is a possibility of booking both a single room and a double room. NOt sure if they are all equipped with showers though.

A double room would cost a bit over 400 SEK per person if you're not members of the IYHF.

You can see what I thought of Kiruna hostel on my page. I wouldn't recommend it and that's unusual as I stay a lot in Swedish hostels and they are generally really good.

Are you finishing your hike at Abisko? Then I would stay there. It has its own railway station for trains to Kiruna/Stockholm. Takes about an hour and the canyon has to be seen :) My Abisko page unfortunately only shows it in winter...

And with Abisko, I mean their fell station. Also a part of STF but much nicer.

Thanks for the responses!

We're actually starting at Abisko and hiking to Kebnekaise (and then to Nikkaluokta) and taking the bus back into Kiruna.

I think we're going to stay the night at the Hotell Kebne in Kiruna: it looks nice from the website, and not horribly expensive. It's always nice to travel with parents because they like to stay in nicer places.....and they foot the bill!

Hehe, yes. Enjoy Kebnekaise. Have you seen dave_21's great pages of it?
