| Yangshuo | Visiting Jade Dragon River Posted: Mon January 23, 2006 09:26 PM UTC
We will be in Yangshuo for a day as part of a tour group. I read that the best way to see the countryside is via bike. That's great, but my wife and daughter do not cycle. I want to visit along the Jade Dragon River (Yulong He). Is there a way of doing it without cycling?

Yes, take a cab out to the Mountain Retreat from Yangshuo West Street (20kuai). From there, you'll be on the river and can go do some hiking or walking through farm fields, etc.
Check: www.yangshuomountainretreat.com Good luck.

Hi,
Taking the cab to some place at the Yulong is a good idea. I would recommend just hike 1 or 1.5 hours thorugh the small villages and then take one of the tiny advanturous bamboo floats to get back near yangshou. After that float tour you are close to Moon Hill which is the most famous one in the region. Do not miss to go there! Have fun, Stephan

Thanks for the great suggestions. Are the raft safe? I had heard that there was a fatality during one year when a person fell over. Supposedly, passengers on the rafts are now required to wear safety vests.

you can do it by yourself, you can hire a taxi or car from yangshuo along yulong river to jinlongzhai village, yuo only stop at this village as if you want to go ahead, it is a very narrow muddy road, the car can not go through the old drangon bridge, if you need more information you can email: jadeleo66@yahoo.com
