Is it possible to find super dooper cheap accomodation in hammocks or something in Caye Caulker in the period of JULY?me and my mate are on serious tight budgets and just need a place to shut our eyes basically, nothing fancy.
Where are the best beaches in round that area?golden sand, and azure water?is it possible?

Accommodations in Caye Caulker aren't expensive - we stayed at Ignacio's which was about $23/night for a double but I'm not sure it is there anymore. Tom's Hotel is still there and pretty inexpensive. Lan Sluder says Tina’s Bak-Pak Hostel may not be the fanciest place on the island, but it seems to be popular with the European, back-pack crowd. He lists the following hotels as C level (under $50US for a double)

Rainbow Hotel, C; Sea Beezzz Guest House; TOM'S HOTEL, C; TREE TOPS, C; Jaguar Morning Star Guesthouse, C; 1788 Motel, C; SHIRLEY'S, B/C; ANCHORAGE, B/C; Hide-A-Way, C, SEAVIEW, C; Lara's, C.

The ones that are in caps are recommended.

As for golden sand and azure water - well maybe. There's not much sand on the Caye Caulker beaches. Plenty of water though.
I have a lot of pictures on my Caye Caulker and Ambergris pages.

i stayed at alberts supermarket last december.
he has double rooms upstairs for 10us dollars a night.
basic, but ok.
when you get off the boat, turn right and walk for about 7-8 minutes and you will find it on the left side of the road.

i stayed at Tina's hostel, i think the bed was 10 bucks per nite, and if you opt to camp in front of the hostel, within the fenced limits, it was 5 or 7 bucks per nite?

i camped -- wasn't too bad, except for the tin roof making a banging noise every time the wind blew... but then again, you could probably hear it from inside as well?

I think i remember some people slept on hammocks on the front balcony of Tina's, as well as other places in Caye Caulker -- you can find cheap places for sure!

Good luck!~

alberts supermarket and tinas are 50 meters away from each other, so you can try your luck both places .

We stayed at the Rainbow Hotel in January. The room had a double bed, a tv, a big noisy (but efficient)ceiling fan, and a shower/bathroom. It was about 30 usd/night. You can definately do Caye Caulker on the cheap. The beaches are not soft, golden sand because the water is very still between the barrier reef and the shore.

July is well into the off season. You should be able to find a place for less than $10 no problem. Tina's is the cheepest that I know of. There is no really good beach on Caulker. There is a place called the split where a hurricaine devided the island. Most tourists swim there. Because of the Barrier reef the shores are mostly mangrove.
