We went to Tioman two years running, but it was way back in 1989-1990. We loved it, but it may have changed.

Our favourite place in Malaysia - and we've been 7 or 8 times- is Penang. We travel budget, so the hotels of Batu Ferringhi were out of our price range. We stayed in the Tanjung Bungah Beach Hotel, half way between Georgetown and Batu Ferringhi. The beaches are no patch on the stunning white sands of Langkawi. Georgetown is full of life- a fabulous almost heritage town of wonderful Chinese shophouses. The pricey Eastern and Oriental Hotel has atmosphere.

Hi emma,

Looks like you are coming back again. Anyway, personally I have been to both places and I think tioman is better. Tioman is the opposite of Langkawi, not much development, very nice and tranquil beaches, great for diving or snorkelling.

As for Pangkor, its alright but as good as Pangkor.
