Chengdu Travel Forum

We are travelling to China and onto Tibet later this year and have a couple of questions. Other than flying is there another way of getting from Xi'an to Chengdu, a train perhaps ? Also what is the best way to go about booking a flight/permits from Changdu to Tibet? I have heard that the Traffic Hotel is helpful and also Sam's Guesthouse. Has anyone any feedback from either?

I think most hostels arrange trips (one - or 2 way) to tibet. Am currently staying at Dreams hostel in the old tibetan area and loving it. Most do flights and i must say i haven't inquired after overland trips since i don't plan to go until later this year but have heard that it is possible.

And yes, there are trains between Xian and Chengdu as dar as i know but if no one comes up with certainty about that i can ask for that info.

i have also helped you by telling you which trains you could get in case you find the website confusing,but you shouldnt really.

i have stayed at both the traffic hotel and sams guesthouse on separate occasions and would say that George at the Jungle at the traffic hotel is the best. Sam is a money grabbing ******* and I didnt like him at all.

The key to working out trains in China is by the letter in front of the number. K stands for fast and T stands for extra fast and if there is no number at all, well dont bother getting in it..you'll be on it for days!!!!
