Bars, Clubs, Restaurants... Whats it like to get into town from Neckermund and how much would a cab be ? Will there be a big screen fan park in Heidelberg ? |

I guess you mean Neckargemünd.
http://www.neckargemuend.de/ There are of course a number of pubs in Neckargemünd itself. Neckargemünd has 2 S-Bahn stations: Altstadt (old town) and Bahnhof (railway station). Neckargemünd to Heidelberg Karlstor (eastern end of Heidelberg's Altstadt) needs 6 minutes by RegionalBahn and 9 minutes by S-Bahn. VRN area http://www.vrn.de/frames/karten_plaene/content.html railroad lines in the VRN http://www.vrn.de/frames/karten_plaene/content_schienennetz.html There are 24-hours mini group tickets (Ticket 24 PLUS) valid for 2-5 persons. The version covering Neckargemünd and Heidelberg is EUR 8,00. The version for the whole VRN network is EUR 17,50. If bought on a Saturday these tickets are valid till Monday 3am (thus longer than 24 hours). The VRN area is quite large and there are many sights/towns worth a visit. > Will there be a big screen fan park in Heidelberg ? There will be to my knowledge a big screen somewhere in a hall. http://www.cvb-heidelberg.de/e3215/index_eng.html For some information it's too early yet. E.g. like extented service times of the S-Bahns etc.

Bad news.
The hall 02 where the screen should be put up was closed today by the city "until further notice". http://www.rnz.de/01_regional/heidelberg/02_Heidelberg.htm (in German) The owners have failed to submit a regularly required certificate about the static security of the building. If there are *problems* as the article fears, it could be well that the owners cannot provide the money to fix the problems till summer.

Neckargemünd or Neckargemuend There are quite a number of places along the river Neckar with Neckar... as name (Neckarsteinach, Neckarelz, Neckarau, Neckarburken, Neckargerach, Neckarhausen, ...). Taxi prices depend on the distance. A 11 km (Heidelberg Altstadt to Neckargemünd Altstadt) trip will be approx. EUR 18,00. > Whats nice within an hour on the train for days out ? Dilsberg (belongs to Neckargemünd) http://www.dilsberg.de/Tour/tour.htm the whole Neckar Valley between Heidelberg and Bad Wimpfen e.g. the 4 castles in Neckarsteinach http://www.burgenstrasse.de/showpage.php?SiteID=&a Speyer http://www.speyer.de/de/tourist/sehenswert?switch_language=en Technikmuseum in Speyer and Sinsheim http://www.technik-museum.de/ Mannheim - the biggest city in this region and quite a number of enchanting towns, castles etc. Best is probably to check the local tourist offices if you are there.

I am sorry, but I can recommend you only some bars in Heidelberg, not Neckargemünd.
In Heidelberg for sure "Dubliner" Pub will show the games of the world cup. I would also recommend "Vetter's Brauhaus" for typical German food and nearly every bar in "untere Straße" to have a lot of fun in the evenings. Hi from heidelberg! Corinna

| Heidelberg | RE: RE: World Cup in June/July. Posted: Tue April 18, 2006 03:08 PM UTC Neckargemuend is not the most exciting place to be unfortunately (believe me, I grew up there!). There are a few bars in the centre, within easy walking distance, but I agree with others that you should opt for trips to Heidelberg. From Heidelberg's Karlstor Bahnhof it's only a 5 minute walk to the upper end of the pedestrianised area, with the Alte Bruecke (Old Bridge) etc nearby. There are plenty of bars & restaurants in the area, so I'd suggest you just wander along till you see one you like. In my younger years I used to frequent pubs such as Die Schmiede on Hauptstrasse (the long pedestrianised street in the heart of the old town) or Pinte in Untere Strasse, which runs parallel to Hauptstrasse at the upper end of the old town. Plenty of locals in those too. Are you staying at a hotel in Ngd?
