| Kerkyra | Corfu/Kerkyra weather in September Posted: Mon January 16, 2006 06:52 PM UTC
Hi there !
We now have been two times on Corfu, in August and July. We now would like to go there in (second half of) September. Can anyone tell us how the weather is like in September ? (e.g. as from 15 Sep). Can you still sunbathe and is it still warm enough to have dinner on a terrace ? Thank you ! |

Hi
In the latter half of September the weather in the Greek islands (and especially the northern islands such as Corfu) is more changeable. When it's sunny it is hot enough to sunbathe and the sea is as warm at this time of year as in the height of summer. The problem is, the sunshine isn't guaranteed. It's certainly probable (I've been to Corfu and several other Greek islands as late as the last week in October and still been able to sunbathe) - but there's always the chance you'll be unlucky and get a week of rain! I went to Sivota (on the mainland, directly opposite Corfu) in late September a few years back and experienced 5 days of rain (heavy thunderstorms and localised flooding) during my week there. It was still warm - but the rain never stopped long enough to sunbathe. Best wishes, Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,
Thank you ! I indeed hear from more people that the weather can change very much. When we were in Corfu last July, the weather was beautiful but we also heard another couple had a few days rain ! So, let's just hope the weather will be nice when we are there in September. Kind regards, Severine

Severine, I think you've got the picture - holidays in Corfu at any time of year can be pot luck as far as rain's concerned. Corfu is famous for its green landscapes and the only reason they are there is because it rains a lot. It's mostly in the winter months of course, but there's always a chance of rain any time. I've been to Paxos (about 10 miles south of Corfu) in July when it rained almost everyday for a week, but I was there in September 2004 and the weather was absolutely wonderful!
Keep your fingers crossed and have a brilliant holiday!

Yes,you can definetely sunbathe and of course have dinner on a terrace although the humidity is quite high as all year around. You may get some rain but wont last more than a day (two max)and it wont be for all day long.

I stayed in Dassia last september 9-21st and had really nice weather. no rain til last couple of hours - really strong shower waved me back home. yes, you can sunbathe all day, but it's more cloudy comparing to my first trip I had in june. it's still warm, so no problem of having a dinner on terrace. but i have to admit it's more question of luck, then weather forecast. if you look at weather archive (check www.wunderground.com) september on corfu can be cloudy and rainy, but rarely for whole day (hopefully not days). it's more like two-hour shower and than sun is back. don't worry, your're gonna have a good time anyway...at place like this.
have fun
